What Does It Mean to Make Peace? (The Beatitudes Pt. 4)

BibleProject

NOTE

Persecution and Expectations

The persecution that comes to those following the kingdom of God doesn't arise from the people they're making peace with, but from those who disagree with their approach. This persecution is not a sign of failure or absence of God's presence, rather an expected outcome when living out the ethics of Jesus. Jesus emphasizes that being caught in the crossfire of angry people and facing criticism is to be expected when doing what is right by God and others. He highlights that persecution can manifest through insults, lies, and being misunderstood, leading some to misinterpret pushback as righteousness. Despite having good intentions and following Jesus' teachings, one should anticipate being misunderstood, mocked, or even harmed by others. Therefore, one should not expect a trouble-free path but should remain steadfast in doing what is right despite facing opposition.
