Understanding AI: A Cultural Perspective on Originality
The perception of artificial intelligence is often misunderstood, reflecting a specific cultural phenomenon, particularly in the West, regarding originality and authenticity. While AI integrates elements of existing work, borrowing ideas akin to how an individual might consume or be inspired by a book, this has not created the same stigma in other cultures. For instance, in Japan, a writer recently won a prestigious award for a book that includes 5% AI-generated content without controversy, and Chinese science fiction authors have long utilized AI as a tool in their writing. This suggests that the criticism of AI largely stems from Western views on creativity rather than a universal position.
