Relax the Sense of Self for Emotional Expansion
Focusing on experiences can lead to relaxation of the self, allowing for a sense of expansion. This practice is taught to counter the blunting of the brain's reward system in addiction. Addiction diminishes the ability to derive pleasure from natural sources, as the drug hijacks the brain's attention and pleasure response. The blunting of the reward system in addiction is well understood, involving dopamine-mediated learning processes and a shift in value from natural rewards to the drug itself.
