The end of Bretton Woods can be attributed to the victory in the Cold War, sparking a reevaluation of the Bretton Woods alliance and its goals. Instead of pursuing the alliance's initial vision, subsequent US administrations have increasingly focused on economic nationalism, shifting away from the global free market capitalism and promoting human rights objectives that were once central to Bretton Woods. Starting from George H.W. Bush and continuing through Obama to Biden, each administration has shown a progression towards economic nationalism, marking a departure from the principles of Bretton Woods.
