NOTE

Humanitarian Crisis and Political Repression in Venezuela

Venezuela is facing a severe humanitarian crisis. The cost of living is extremely high, with a monthly minimum wage of $5 compared to the $500 needed for food expenses. Young people struggle to go to college and often have to juggle multiple jobs just to survive. Access to public services like water and electricity is also very poor. These violations of human rights are a result of both extreme poverty and the oppressive regime of Nicolas Maduro. The government is known for political repression, unfair elections, lack of freedom of speech, and the imprisonment of over 280 political activists. The security forces have also killed hundreds of protesters during demonstrations in recent years.
