NOTE

Sleep Disrupted: The Ripple Effects of Alcohol and Caffeine

Alcohol impacts sleep significantly by delaying the normal REM sleep cycle and causing the brain to attempt a rebound, resulting in vivid dreams. However, this rebound effect does not fully restore lost REM sleep. Caffeine, a psychoactive stimulant, also disrupts sleep due to its long half-life of about five to six hours, meaning residual caffeine may still impact sleep at night if consumed in the afternoon. This lingering caffeine can hinder the ability to fall asleep and elevate anxiety levels, creating a racing mind when trying to rest.
