NOTE

From Refugee to Ruler: The Rise of Seleucus

In a span of a few years, Seleucus shifted from being a refugee with limited resources to becoming the ruler of the eastern territories after successfully challenging Antigonus. His strategic retreat of Antigonus from the east allowed Seleucus to consolidate power, gaining control over the eastern satrapies while recognizing his limitations against formidable opponents like Antigonus and Ptolemy. By ceding territories in India to Chandragupta, he demonstrated his tactical acumen, allowing him to focus on stabilizing and governing the regions he could effectively control. This pivotal transformation marked the establishment of the Seleucus Empire, known for its longevity of 250 years, earning Seleucus the title 'Nikator,' meaning the bringer of victory.
