NOTE

Understanding Lipid Panel and APOB Levels

The lipid panel is crucial for assessing triglyceride disorders based on triglyceride levels; triglycerides above 500 indicate a rare genetic disorder requiring triglyceride reduction to prevent pancreatitis. Triglycerides below 500, especially in diabetics or insulin-resistant individuals, with levels around 140-150, highlight the importance of APOB as a therapy goal. Total cholesterol levels serve as a rough estimate of APOB levels, with above 150 suggesting hyper-beta lipoproteinemia. LDL cholesterol, being a major component of APOB particles, is a key indicator, and levels above 200 indicate serious APOB levels, whereas above 150 should prompt further APOB testing.
