Can language describe reality? with Nick Enfield

Reason with Science

NOTE

Is That Culture Good or Bad?

Determining whether a culture is good or bad often depends on comparisons with other cultures, which is a complex and sometimes taboo question. Cultural practices can raise moral dilemmas, but distinctions between them can also be arbitrary, akin to preferring rice over pasta. Trade-offs exist within cultural systems, with some being more complex in one dimension while simpler in another. Evolutionary pressures lead to balanced trade-offs, and various solutions to these pressures can be equally valid. Additionally, certain extreme systems, like those with a distinct word for every object or only one word for all objects, would be ineffective for communication and are thus categorized as 'bad'. Overall, adaptive systems emerge through the daily function and usage of language within human societies, ensuring that particularly ineffective systems rarely manifest.
