NOTE

The Potential of Individualized and Personalized Learning in Hybrid and Virtual Schooling

The concept of individualized and personalized learning in hybrid and virtual schooling is an exciting opportunity enabled by various technologies. The pandemic has proven the infrastructure for virtual schooling, providing families the option to decide the frequency of in-person attendance. In the context of hybrid learning, particularly for children in poverty and underprivileged communities, the integration of technology and virtual instruction has shown positive outcomes. An example from Chicago schools demonstrates how almost 99% of students ready for algebra now have access to it, compared to 20% previously. These students receive algebra instruction through various methods, such as traditional teachers, virtual hubs, and extended summer programs. The virtual Academy has enabled personalized learning experiences, allowing students to learn at their own pace and receive additional support as needed, which has resulted in increased proficiency in advanced math and better preparedness for STEM careers.
