Education Research Reading Room
The Importance of Having High Art Everywhere in Schools
Having high art that has been influenced or has influenced others is important to see everywhere around a school. Art should be ubiquitous to create excitement and make people feel like they're in a special place. It's important for people to have that feeling of being in a different place. Instead of reading books about education, it's important to read books about one's subject area to be inspired. The speaker's three favorite books are Walter Mosley's '47', Herman Hesse's 'Siddhartha', and Vonnegut's 'Welcome to the Monkey House', all of which he incorporated into his teaching.
