Dark matter behaves like other forms of matter gravitationally, but does not interact with light. It has a different distribution and is roughly spherical in our galaxy. Unlike ordinary matter, dark matter can collapse more readily, driving galaxy formation. It dominates in energy density earlier than ordinary matter.
