With their disobedience, they had stepped out of the landscape into the foreground. Adam and eve were weeds in the garden, n little agents of chaos within an order created by god. And so god kicks them out of the garden and punishes them in other ways. But the serpent was not lying. They are awake. In the human race, which issues from adam and Eve, it does, in fact, achieve a higher level of consciousness.
