The Impact of Social Rewards on the Adolescent Brain

A kid's brain starts developing an adult-like brain early on, making them crave social rewards like attention and influence from peers. This prepares them to be more independent and encourages them to spend more time with peers. This behavior is observed in other mammals as well. During adolescence, around 12 or 13 years old, teens strongly desire peer interaction. Traditionally, this was only possible through school, visiting friends' houses, or calling on the phone.
