The insight highlighted in the snip revolves around the idea of hierarchy in understanding the truth and the different roles of the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The speaker emphasizes the necessity of hierarchy to avoid chaos in beliefs and actions. By delving into neuroscience, specifically brain structure and hemispheric differences, the speaker explains that the left hemisphere excels in grasping and simplifying while the right hemisphere focuses on comprehending and putting information together. Attention is presented as a vital mechanism that shapes consciousness and reality, leading to the development of personal limitations or expanded perspectives. Furthermore, the speaker discusses other aspects like perception, judgment, emotional and social intelligence, cognitive intelligence, and creativity, showing the superiority of the right hemisphere in processing information from the external world.
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down in-person with psychiatrist, researcher, and philosopher Dr. Iain McGilchrist. They discuss right brain/left brain hemispheric specialization, the basis of delusion, “unknowing” as a necessary step toward wisdom, consciousness and the divine ground of being, and the imposition of mediocrity in the modern West.
