The Importance of Grounding Yourself

When someone is dysregulated, talking and reasoning with them is ineffective. Just like with a child in an emotional state, they won't listen no matter how much you explain. So, it's important to first develop a toolkit to regulate yourself before trying to analyze and think. Grounding yourself in the present moment and finding self-soothing tools are key. Trying to find answers or intellectualize when dysregulated only leads to more confusion. Dysregulation is a bodily experience that can't be solved through thinking alone. Change comes from within the body.
