NOTE

How Computers Work and Why Invest in Networking, Storage, and Memory

Every computer operates with four fundamental elements: memory, storage, compute, and networking. In constructing a gaming PC, components like the GPU and CPU connect through PCI Express, highlighting the importance of proper assembly. Conceptualizing a data center as a restaurant illustrates that the GPU functions as the head chef, reliant on storage (delivery truck for ingredients) and memory (the refrigerator) to perform tasks. The CPU channels data into the GPU memory, enabling processing akin to cooking. Despite GPUs increasing in speed by 50 times over the past five years, the overall data center infrastructure has only improved by four to five times, leading to inefficiencies where GPUs remain underutilized. Therefore, investing in next-generation networking, storage, and memory technologies is essential, especially in networking, to enhance overall data center performance.
