Ancient Egypt divided the day into two types of hours - unequal hours and equal hours. Unequal hours were based on the time between sunrise and sunset, while equal hours divided the entire period of daylight and darkness into 24 equal hours. Both systems coexisted, causing variations in the length of day and night hours.
