Christian communities often avoid discussing money, despite its significant emphasis in Jesus' teachings, where nearly half of his messages relate to financial matters. Jesus highlighted the connection between one's wealth and core values, repeatedly promoting radical generosity, which was a hallmark of early Christians. The reluctance to engage in financial discussions in church settings contradicts the very principles of openness and accountability that are central to the faith, suggesting a disconnection from foundational teachings on money and stewardship. Engaging in these conversations is essential to align with the heritage of radical generosity that Jesus promoted.
What does an obedient follower of Jesus do with their money? In this re-release of one of our most popular episodes, Jon and Tim share the story of John Cortinez and Greg Baumer. Ambitious, driven, and financially successful, John and Greg meet in class at Harvard Business School, confident of the plans they have for their lives. But when a class project gives them a vision for how their money could be part of God's Kingdom here on Earth, everything changes.
