The rapid growth of our civilization from half a billion people to 8 billion people in just a few generations has raised questions about the impact on Earth and our ability to sustain this scale. Space exploration is crucial to understand and manage this impact to ensure the preservation of our habitat. Additionally, in the long run, scaling beyond Earth is necessary for our continued growth. There are three possible trajectories of human scalability: growth, stagnation, or decline. The most exciting and desirable trajectory is one in which we continue scaling while avoiding decline.
