Caution in Psychotropic Combinations

Most tricyclic antidepressants can be cautiously used with MAOIs, except amiparamine and clomiparamine due to their strong serotoninergic effects. It is advisable to stick to less serotoninergic tricyclics like disiparamine, trimiparamine, and doxypin, particularly when other safer options have failed and the depression is severe. Monitoring blood pressure is essential, and caution is emphasized when considering the use of amitriptyline due to its mild serotoninergic properties. Bupropion, metazepine, and trazodone are relatively safe to combine with MAOIs. However, the use of certain psychotropics with serotonergic effects, which are not classified as antidepressants, is discouraged.
