The Role of Event Captions in NetHack and Other Environments
NetHack is primarily a text-based game, but the use of event captions is more effective than interpreting text directly. Event captions are high-level descriptions of actions, similar to opening a door or going down stairs. These captions can be easily generated using current captioning models. The motif architecture can also be applied to visual-based observations using a vision language model.
