Minds Behind Maps

NOTE

The Future of Maps and Automation

Maps are predicted to disappear as automation takes over the mapping process. With the advancement of technology, it is now possible to automate the creation of maps using data collected from cameras and GPS in vehicles like Tesla cars. This data can be used to generate maps within a short timeframe, eliminating the need for manual data collection by thousands of individuals. As self-driving cars become more prevalent, the importance of road names in maps diminishes, as the cars themselves do not require this information. This simplifies the mapping process significantly and makes it more efficient. Although road names may still be useful for other purposes, the generation of maps without them reduces the complexity of the task by a factor of 100. Overall, automation is poised to revolutionize the future of maps, streamlining the process and making it easier to create accurate and up-to-date maps of the world.
