Challenges of Implementing Unions in Tech Companies
The traditional union model does not align with the complex hierarchical structure of tech companies. In tech, the management hierarchy is deep and tall, whereas the individual contributor hierarchy is also tall. This structure would lead to individuals in the union having disproportionate influence, even comparable to high-level SVPs, and excluding low-level managers who have limited influence. The current union structure divides based on management roles, which doesn't fit with the tech industry. To implement unions in tech effectively, the organizational structure of tech companies would need significant changes.
