In Botswana, the traditional Tswana royal family has had significant influence, with half of the country's presidents since the 1960s being members of this royal family. This royal family holds a large sway in popularity, as the Tswana people make up 80% of Botswana's population. The loyalty of the Tswana people to their traditional chief has resulted in an almost guaranteed voter base, leading to collaboration and work with the ruling party. This indicates a successful repurposing of the monarchy in a different form, where the traditional chiefs collaborate with the ruling party, ensuring significant influence in politics.
