The Influence of Selectivity on College Completion Rates and Race/Gender Effects
Selective schools have a higher rate of degree completion, but the mechanism behind this is not determined. Another study found that minorities have lower completion rates than whites, but overall, students who enroll in a selective institution are 7% more likely to complete their degree. This effect is more pronounced for African Americans and Hispanics. Gender does not significantly affect completion rates, but women are generally more likely to graduate.
