Simplicity Over Complexity in Data Modeling
For organizations with a limited number of source systems, such as those primarily using Salesforce or a single CRM with a few additional systems, sticking to a standard star schema and Kimball approach with slowly changing dimensions is usually adequate. A data vault integration layer may be unnecessary and can be skipped, as dealing with five or fewer source systems through dimensional modeling is more manageable. However, when the number of source systems exceeds five, the complexity of combining multiple sources makes the additional integration layer more beneficial.
