This inclination stems from a desire to elevate their own status by bringing others down to their level. Such behavior indicates a deeper malaise in those who engage in fault-finding, serving as a convenient excuse for their own lack of growth or self-improvement. The Quran highlights this tendency, labeling those who indulge in gossip and criticism as 'humaza' – prone to fault-finding. The fixation on others' shortcomings is characterized as a reflection of their own sickness, indicating emotional or spiritual instability. This persistent cultural trend towards criticism and exposure of weaknesses highlights a troubling aspect of human nature that remains consistent throughout time.
