I didn't realize that you had to be into science to do medicine. My interest just across my entire life as an undergraduate at Cambridge went from maths, physics, chemistry, molecular biology, immunology and neurobiology. And so why the brain? I think it was really that double origin that has continued to dictate the kind of question that interests me. It's much easier to tell in retrospect than the sort of zigzag path it was at the time. In other words, being a good student is going to be lost because you have to be creative as a scientist too.
