In europeans, abortion on request is banned after 12 weeks. In the case of danger to the mother, you can have an abortion later. It's banned at 14 weeks for france and germany, spain, in austria, at 18 weeks in sweden. These are dates that would sound incredibly conservative to an american. And yet europeans have figured out that this is actually what works in terms of a compromise between the right and the left - which we haven't managed to do.
