In 2020, the left populist government of Jews introduced a subsidy to pay homeowners who increased the energy efficiency of their homes, covering 110% of the improvement costs. The initiative also covered 90% of the cost of improving the front of buildings. The subsidy came in the form of non-reimbursable tax credits, which could be traded for cash, leading to a construction boom in Italy, outperforming France and Germany in terms of economic growth.
