People's Preconception of Machines as Unbiased Decision Making Tools
People tend to have a preconception that machines are consistent logical decision-making tools that are not prone to biases and quirks as humans. Even when informed that machine learning systems are trained on biased datasets, it does not seem to disrupt this preconception. There might be a rationale for biased information feeding into algorithms, giving them a higher legitimacy in the eyes of the decision-makers. Understanding this phenomenon would require further analysis and study.
