The Three Kinds of Feedback: Appreciation, Coaching, and Evaluation

Feedback can be categorized into three types: appreciation, coaching, and evaluation. Appreciation involves positive feedback and praise to encourage desired behavior. Coaching includes giving advice and guidance on how to improve or learn new skills. Evaluation is about informing someone about their performance level, such as where they stand in terms of meeting expectations. While these types can be separate conversations, they do not have to be. It is suggested to provide more appreciation to build trust, but it is possible to combine these types of feedback.
