The 'Hit to Kill' Phenomenon in China: The Economics of Deadly Accidents

In China, there is a phenomenon called "hit to kill" where it is more economical to kill someone in a car accident than to injure them. Drivers intentionally hit someone and then reverse and forward over the body. Killing only requires a one-time payment of $30,000 to $50,000 for burial, while a lifetime of medical expenses for an injured person can cost millions. This bizarre practice is reminiscent of the world depicted in the early George Lucas film THX-1138.
