Socioeconomics as a Better Proxy
Race is not the most useful proxy for identifying disadvantaged individuals. Socioeconomic factors like income, wealth, and other sophisticated measures are more accurate proxies for distinguishing between individuals who have advantages and those who do not. Thus, while race is commonly used to address disadvantage, socioeconomics provides a more precise measure for identifying and assisting those in need.
