The Myths That Make Us

NOTE

Exploration of Mythic Play, Default Myths, and the Wasteland in the Psyche

Mythic play involves the ability to adopt and understand various worldviews, which is essential for artistic expression and consciousness evolution. Each individual possesses a default myth, shaped by their upbringing and early cultural influences, which can lead to challenges when ingrained beliefs clash with reality. A typical manifestation of this conflict is the midlife crisis, often experienced by those under 25 operating within their default myth. Significant life events, such as trauma or profound experiences, can trigger the first death of one's default myth, propelling them into the wasteland—a psychological state associated with disorientation and loss. Within this wasteland, individuals may face mental health issues, as mainstream culture lacks effective myths to guide them through this stage. Many people get trapped in this state of despair, contributing to high depression rates. However, some individuals can emerge from the wasteland by creating new myths, leading to the crucial understanding that established beliefs can be transformed or abandoned.
