The Importance of Reading Aloud
Before the schism, reading was mostly done aloud in a communal and sapiential context. Reciting a poem brings it to life, as demonstrated at a poetry party where people shared their favorite pieces. Singing a poem appeals to us in a more embodied and communicative way, engaging our know-how of communication and attention. It creates a unique experience of being in a specific space with others.
