*The limited persuasive power of data in arguments *
Data has a limited capacity to change beliefs because our brains did not evolve to rely on numbers and spreadsheets for making conclusions. Data works when individuals have a neutral stance or already share a similar viewpoint. However, in arguments where opposing views are present, data often has little impact. People tend to ignore data, deem it irrelevant, or even experience the backfire effect where they come up with new reasons to support their existing beliefs when presented with contradicting data.
