Anatomy and Arrangement of Electrons

Electrons in an atom are held by the Coulomb force between the positive nucleus and negative electrons. Viewing electrons as waves helps to understand their behavior. Electrons in atoms act like waves on a rope, with energy determining the wavelength. For electrons to move around the nucleus in a stable manner, their waves must align perfectly with a specific number of wavelengths. This alignment corresponds to different energy levels in the atom, akin to climbing rungs on a ladder. When electrons transition between energy levels, excess energy is emitted as light, creating discrete spectral lines. The discreteness of these lines illustrates that energy levels in atoms are distinct, resembling rungs on a ladder due to the necessity for wave alignment.
