Teaching to Change Lives: A Book Recommendation for Parents

One book that I highly recommend for parents is 'Teaching to Change Lives' by Howard Hendricks. Although it may not seem like an obvious choice, this classic book discusses the role of teaching and its relevance to parenting. Rather than simply transferring knowledge, the book argues that our job as parents is to teach our children how to think critically and find answers for themselves. It emphasizes the importance of guiding children towards becoming independent learners. This idea resonates with me because as parents, we are constantly in the role of teachers. We should focus on nurturing their critical thinking skills rather than just providing answers. For example, recently, one of my children asked me how to spell a word, and instead of giving them the answer directly, I encouraged them to think it through and find the solution on their own.
