Trust is the Foundation of Effective Onboarding
An optimal onboarding process for product teams involves creating a sense of trust in the new product manager (PM). Establish a clear structure that includes introductions, reading materials, and customer interactions. To foster trust, the leader should actively advocate for the new PM's capabilities and share their accomplishments, reinforcing that the PM is a competent captain for the team. Identifying and facilitating a 'quick win' for the PM can further build confidence from the team. Conversely, teams may lose faith in a PM when they make frequent poor decisions or fail to listen to team input, highlighting the importance of being open and receptive rather than overly opinionated.
