The conflict over race hierarchy was also a conflict over labor and over whom, who could control it. The process of trying to enforce race hierarchy, violence ends at being the means through which there is an attempt to coop this group. This is why i think the significance of this is national. In reconstruction, you get the beginnings of what would become the american racial order.
