The Kukex Clan - The Birth of the Clan

Rit gathering around in costumes to terrorize people, to scare them, begins as a bit. But the recognition that it actually scares people ends up turning it into something more. The first cu klux was likely not founded for the direct purpose of racial conflict. For some time after its founding, it had no ulterior motive or effect. This changes pretty soon after its founding as a result of both the desire to want to control black political activity and black agency. It almost grows out of the performance that is part of being the clan.
