Destruction of the old for the sake of Maoism

The Cultural Revolution involved progressively crazier actions with a goal to erase the past to make way for pure Maoism. This included destroying old ideas, culture, customs, and habits by taking down statues, including Buddhist and Christian statues, and purging everything old from public spaces and people's homes. The Red Guards were instructed to eliminate anything considered old, including furniture and photos, to pave the way for the new Maoist ideology.
