General Anesthesia vs. Sleep
General anesthesia is distinct from sleep in terms of neural physiology and depth of unconsciousness. Anesthesia is not akin to sleep but reaches deep levels of unconsciousness, making it markedly different. Anesthesiologists do not merely induce a sleep-like state; rather, they can lower brain activity significantly for surgery and bring the patient back afterward.
