I love my MacBook, but I also love the idea of a computer that specializes in a few tasks and feels like a well-made single-purpose tool. The tech industry should embrace more experimentation and ideas instead of just sticking to metal rectangles for laptops and glass slabs for phones. Keegan's work on dumb phones is intriguing because it challenges the idea of selling objectively worse phones. What features are truly necessary? Phone calls and texts are crucial, maybe Google Maps too, but do we really need Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, and a web browser? It's difficult to find the right balance between functionality and simplicity. Perhaps the solution lies in embracing various tools that excel at one thing rather than trying to pack everything into one device.
