Living a day at a time, clearing the wreckage of the past
Living without a plan for life makes it painful, but finding a spiritual program can be rejuvenating. The program guides in understanding a higher power, taking inventory, and becoming more honest and sober. It is a process of forever increasing goals in becoming a better person and entails growth. Steps six and seven focus on change for the better, while eight and nine clear up the past. The ability to live a day at a time is challenging when burdened with the past, which is addressed through making amends. The tenth step emphasizes taking personal inventory and admitting wrongs. The speaker compares their old conception of life to a pinball in a machine, feeling trapped and complaining until finding the path to recovery.
