Homeless individuals deserve empathy, compassion, and support to reduce the costs to society of maintaining them on the streets, which can amount to 40 to 80,000 dollars per person per year. The visible homeless population, particularly in California where half of all unsheltered individuals in the US reside, is estimated at 115,491 individuals out of a national total of 233,832 unsheltered homeless people.
