Experience Doesn't Guarantee Smooth Progress Moving Backwards
Growing in an organization doesn't necessarily make moving to a higher role easier. Transitioning to a new role, even with previous experience in bigger organizations, can still be challenging. Joining as a direct manager for the first time requires learning the code base, infrastructure side, and processes which can be overwhelming. Unlike joining as an engineer with onboarding experience, managers are immediately put to the test, needing to learn the technical side alongside their managerial responsibilities which can be time-consuming. The larger the organization, the steeper the learning curve becomes.
