In Our Time: Religion

NOTE

The Rise of Aristotelian Thought

The vast majority of Christians in the world were direct heirs of Greek philosophy. Charlemagne, for instance, around about 800 AD ordered the translation of major Greek texts into Latin to be placed in every single monastery. So we have an intellectual milieu going on. We have Bede here in our own country, pioneering modern historiography. It's not as though Christianity was this sort of black backwater where nothing was happening,. but the same challenge was rising.
